City of Bones

City of Bones - Cassandra Clare This is probably the most engrossing young adult novel I've read since Harry Potter, and the start of a promising series. The book is a ton of fun and hard to put down. The plot is tight and suspenseful, and the characters are very relate-able and interesting. Actually, it's been a while since I've cared for characters in a book as much as I cared for Clare's characters. The dialogue is quite witty. The book succeeds in being dark and riveting while still making me laugh aloud at points.
The book wasn't written perfectly however, for example, the descriptions use a lot of cliches, and the plot is consistently predictable. I found that it was very easy to overlook these shortcomings when the book itself was so readable.
